Setting off from the small town of Port Angeles, located just adjacent to Olympic National Park, you’ll paddle in the waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Take in views of the rocky seashore, see if you can spot the local wildlife (including everything from harbor seals and bald eagles to otters and even whales), and get a feel for kayaking. Beginners are very welcome to participate in this fun and educational outing, and all kayaking gear is provided.

Take to the waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca — and discover the heart of the Pacific Northwest’s wild beauty — on this 4-hour kayaking adventure. Elect to head out at 9am for a morning tour or at 1:30pm for an afternoon adventure. You’ll convene with your guide at Adventures Through Kayaking in the small town of Port Angeles. Following an introduction, equipment briefing, and other preparations, you’ll head to the nearby launch point. All kayaking equipment is provided.

Once you take to the water, paddle along the designated Whale Trail, see the beautifully rugged cliff shorelines of the region, and otherwise drink in the stunning natural scenery; here, you’ll be just adjacent to Olympic National Park. From the comfort of your beginner-friendly stable kayak, see if you can spot wildlife including bald eagles and harbor seals, intertidal life like sea anemones and starfish, and even a whale or two, if you’re lucky.

In total, you’ll spend close to three hours on the water. Once the tour winds down and you return to Port Angeles, you’re also welcome to attend a complimentary wine tasting at the neighboring winery — another way to enjoy the bounty of the Pacific Northwest.

Due to flooding concerns in the early 1900s, the citizens of Port Angeles worked out an incredible plan to elevate the city's downtown streets, creating a network of underground tunnels and storefronts. In this unbelievable feat of engineering many older buildings were lost, but a select few remain. This fully-guided 2-hour guided tour includes a fascinating explanation of the history of the city and the tactics used to raise the city streets in 1914, as well as visits to multiple underground and historic locations throughout downtown. Enjoy with a smaller group where the maximum amount of people on a tour is 20.

Tour departs from the Port Angeles Visitor Center in downtown Port Angeles. You will head through and explore the city’s underground on a fully guided tour. Even seeing areas in the underground unavailable to the general public.

The tour starts with a fascinating explanation of the history of the city and the construction of the Underground including images of Port Angeles in the early 1900s. Learn about the reasoning for raising the city and what it was like at the time.

After learning the history, the last 90 minutes of the tour will focus on a stroll through the downtown core to visit rediscovered basements and long-forgotten tunnels under the city streets. Also stop in at the city’s original movie theater and venture into a hidden brothel above an unassuming family shoe store. There are several short flights of stairs and multiple opportunities to sit down and listen to stories during the tour.

Your tour guide is a local historian and expert on the city’s underground past.
